Once In A Lifetime Maternity Experience
Nikki is a fun and fabulous free spirit, to say the least. When she contacted me for her maternity photos she could hardly contain her excitement. She was expecting her first child and was anxious to create some epic maternity photos. She and her husband are both crossfit athletes, each competes (and win) at local and statewide events. She expressed interest in creating maternity portraits that were both feminine and powerful.
Maternity Style
Natalie met with Nikki for her design and style consultation at Nikki’s home. After reviewing Nikki’s wardrobe we decided on a sleek black form fitting dress for couple’s photos and then added some edgy bling for her individual photos. One of our favorite looks from this maternity session was with a sheer black lace top and black panties. This simple yet fashionable maternity look is easy to pull of and always looks amazing!
Flowing Fabric
Nikki was having a boy and wanted to incorporate our beautiful blue fabric into her photoshoot. We had discussed a specific vision of the fabric look with her, a dramatic look with fabric flowing behind her and only wrapped around her breasts. I think we nailed the photo and she certainly nailed the pose with that fierce look.
There were several other photos we created using the fabric, all with a more delicate and gentle feel to add balance to the collection of portraits.
Au Natural
Nikki was also open to fully showing her pregnant body au Natural. This is a very small window of time when our bodies are doing an amazing thing and we believe look magnificent. We are a body positive studio and think women should embrace it. That being said Nikki had been doing crossfit up until her 8th month of pregnancy, comparisons to tennis star Serena Williams on the cover of Vanity Fair for her maternity photoshoot have definitely been made.
It’s important that when designing a photoshoot that the overall look of the series of portraits be cohesive. This photoshoot was designed with specific goals of creating a sense of drama, maternal power, and femininity, all achieved and in balance.
Once In A Lifetime
Nikki had mentioned this would be her only pregnancy, we felt honored to be able to create such wonderful portraits for her as a lasting memory of her time creating life.
